MIYA HANNAN

Miya Hannan is an interdisciplinary studio artist working in installation, drawing, and sculpture. She has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her work explores traces of memory and history embedded in the natural world that continue to linger. She is the recipient of the Franklin Research Grant (2025) and the Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship (2023). Her artist’s book, a collaborative project with Brighton Press (San Diego, 2017), is held in the collections of over 30 institutions, including the Getty Research Institute, the Library of Congress, and Stanford University.

Hannan has been awarded numerous artist residencies, including Tokyo Arts and Space, Japan (2024), Jentel Artist Residency, WY (2022), Willapa Bay AiR, WA (2017), and Red Gate Residency in Beijing, China (2017). In 2012, she was commissioned by TEDxSan Diego to create an installation for their event, and in 2013 she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Mesa College, San Diego. Before moving to the United States, she worked for seven years as a medical professional in her native Japan. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno.
